We have been delighted to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with our good friends Islamic Relief Worldwide at their global headquarters in Birmingham. This notable occurrence sees Islamic Relief Worldwide and DeafKidz International collaborate to ensure D/deaf children worldwide are able to access Islamic Relief Worldwide programming and services in some of the most challenging of geographies. “It’s a privilege to partner with IRW as it works to deliver a humanitarian response to some of the most vulnerable people worldwide” said Steve Crump, DeafKidz International’s founder and Chief Executive. “Whether delivering humanitarian aid to two million people in war torn Yemen or responding to escalating violence in Myanmar, Islamic Relief has continued to demonstrate its commitment to vulnerable people, mobilising change and empowering communities to rebuild after conflict and natural disasters”.

With D/deafness being the third largest disability globally, but the least resourced, this partnership will see both organisations work to ensure D/deaf children and young people are able to access front line services in their communication mode of choice; sign language, sign supported spoken language and community ethnic sign; all of which to be afforded within a safeguarding and protection construct. “This partnership builds upon the success of our work to date and affirms DeafKidz International as the global, go-to, expert on the safeguarding and protection of D/deaf children” said Steve. “Over the coming months we will be looking to ensure we add real value to Islamic Relief’s work and, in particular, that no D/deaf child is left behind.
