DeafKidz International’s flagship football initiative, DeafKidz Goal! (DKG!), delivered in partnership with Slum Soccer, continues to make a lasting impact on deaf children and young people in Nagpur, India. Beyond structured football training, the programme empowers participants by building leadership skills, confidence, and inclusivity, helping to create a more inclusive future for deaf children worldwide.
Building Skills and Confidence
15 deaf coaches are currently leading twice-weekly sessions across 5 schools, engaging up to 150 deaf children and young people. Through these sessions, participants are developing essential teamwork and communication skills while enjoying the benefits of structured and guided football sessions.
In addition to football training, deaf awareness workshops are being held for parents and community members. These workshops aim to promote a more inclusive and supportive environment for deaf individuals in their homes and communities.
Deaf Youth Leadership Camp
A major highlight of the programme was the Deaf Youth Leadership Camp, where 20 Deaf youth leaders participated in a transformative 3-day camp. The experience focused on leadership development, communication, and teamwork—equipping young deaf leaders with the skills they need to inspire others. This initiative is vital in ensuring that the next generation of deaf leaders can advocate for greater inclusion and opportunities within their communities.

The DeafKidz Goal! programme is not just about football—it’s about creating lasting change for deaf children. To showcase its growth and impact, DKI is currently preparing a short film to highlight the journey of a DeafKidz Goal! Fellow, illustrating how the programme transforms lives and fosters leadership. With aspirations to expand the initiative across India and beyond, this video will help raise awareness of the crucial role that sport plays in empowering deaf children.
