Earlier this September, DeafKidz International proudly attended the FlareWave Festival in Brighton as a stallholder. The four-day event celebrated Deaf-led arts, creativity, and community through performance, exhibitions, and workshops.
The FlareWave Festival is a huge celebration of Deaf culture, bringing together Deaf artists, families, and allies from across the UK and beyond. It promotes inclusion, accessibility, and creativity, values that perfectly align with DeafKidz International’s mission to ensure every deaf child can stay safe, strong, and heard.
Our Founder, Steve Crump, joined Global Ambassador Caroline Palmer and her daughter Ellie to host the DeafKidz stall. Throughout the weekend, they worked hard to share the charity’s message with visitors and raise awareness of our global programmes.
The team also spoke with Deaf children, parents, visitors and artists about safety, empowerment, and communication. As a result, attendees learned about DeafKidz International’s work and how to get involved.
A Celebration of Deaf Talent and Community
FlareWave is a Deaf-led festival that celebrates creativity and collaboration. It features performances, art exhibitions, and interactive sessions that highlight the richness of Deaf culture. In addition, it provides a vital space for Deaf and hearing audiences to connect and learn from one another.
For DeafKidz International, the festival offered an excellent opportunity to meet new supporters and strengthen links with the Deaf community. It also showed how art and advocacy can work together to promote inclusion and empowerment.
